Letter from our Pastor

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

Serve the LORD with gladness:

Come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;

We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations."
  Psalms 100

Our History

The JB Gospel Praisers professionally came into existence in January of 1997. Our singing ministry's name was created by using the initials of mine and my husband's first and last names combined (Johnny and Judy Bishop) and we sing gospel music giving praise unto the Lord (Gospel Praisers) as well as our home town of Grand Prairie, Texas for the initials of GP.

Johnny and I have been singing ever since we got married in  7/1961, but not professionally. We started singing in public  November 1995 through the encouragement of our youngest son (Johnny Lee), who will be a minister some day in the future. We are truly grateful to him for persuading us to begin our ministry, because we love singing to our audiences as well as being drawn closer to the Lord.

Granny began playing the keyboard/organ in May 1997. Shelby D. Bishop, her husband passed away in February 1997 and in order to help her cope through her grief we encouraged her to join our band. It does pay to stay busy even through sorrow even though you feel you can't go on, because God's grace sees you through all problems. He gives you strength when you think you have none and puts his loving arms around you each and everyday.

Through these years we have performed at various Nursing Homes and Retirement Centers; Nutrition Centers; Senior Citizen Centers; Golden Age Meeting; 4th of July Dedication Celebration; birthday celebrations; the Dallas Auto Shows with the Sunshiner's band; and the Calvin Wills Southern Gospel Music Theater in Granbury, Texas as well as at Hensley Field Veterans Day celebration in Grand Prairie in November 2000.

We only sing gospel music either the good old hymns or new ones we have written and arranged. Every time we perform we are truly blessed when we watch glows of radiant smiles with happiness upon audiences faces and feel the holy presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
___________________________________________________

As of May 2002 Granny had to retire from the JB Gospel Praisers Singing Ministry due to health reasons, but she is still a part of our history and therefore she began playing the keyboard/organ in May 1997 after Shelby D. Bishop, her husband passed away in February 1997 and in order to help her cope through grief we encouraged her to join our band.  It pays to stay busy even through sorrow when you feel like you just can’t go on; but the Lord’s help she was able to go through each day with the his grace and loving arms around her to get her through the loss of her loved one.  God gives you strength and courage when you can’t seem find it on your own.  Even though Granny has had to retire she will always be part of our group‘s history.
